So usually I don’t paint bright, nor do I use pure Cadmium Orange or Cadmium Yellow, especially not in the same painting… So this is a departure for me, a very, very bright departure… It will be interesting to see where this one ends up, It is making me SUPER ANXIOUS having all these colour things as well as tonal contrasts happening in one picture. I am trying to tell myself it’s like when I was young and had only worn black shoes ever then finally I got a pair of white and I couldn’t stop anxiously staring at my feet going ARGH! haha. It’s from a power station in Melbourne looking along the tracks, can you tell where?
Managed to get some rare plein air time in this morning, was a bit smoggy. The clouds were less intense than the light on the ground. And I met the bottle man, who if you look at the second picture places bottles in rows on the ground in the same spot and everynow and then either smashes or replaces them…And here was me thinking it was a VCA arts student doing it… Which seems more interesting than the painting itself!
So 5 million dollars would be great yes? Well more on that in a second, I’ve just had a surprise exhibition dropped on me (softly) the install is this Sunday, down in Warrnambool, Victoria – Australia. SO I quickly got some little works framed up and they look great… The exhibition is in the new Maddens Lawyers foyer, brand new and I am the first person to exhibit there… 219 Koroit st. Warrnambool is the address, open 9 – 5 next week. Below are some of the smaller and larger works marked for the exhibition, prices will be up next week.
Now to the 5 million dollars, and the smug guy on the left. I could swear if you look at the picture of the two who managed to make off with Rembrandts, Vermeers and some -he looks like even in the police drawing that he is smiling a little… see the full story here.
So I’m not known for my portraits of politicians, but I finished this portrait last year for a fundraiser for ArtLink, helping students with special needs continue to have the chance to make art…It’s still available for sale…
When I did the portrait of Denis Napthine, Ted Baillieu was still in power for the Liberals in Victoria. I asked Denis for one word that would describe him to all.
Was his answer. It seems he was and is. Pre – Emptive?
For many years I have driven past this place in Warrnambool and wished to paint the house on the hill which late in the evening changes into something more… There have been a few places I have wanted to do this and… Due to unforeseen events those places have been wiped off the face of the earth. Australia is tough.
I have an exhibition coming up in Warrnambool late this month so I am busily painting to have some new pieces for the show!
Lately with the help of my friends I have been tramping around Melbourne and getting them to run amok… with a cardboard box on their head… Some are more adventurous than others and the result is sometimes… humorous…
Merry Whatever it is you are about to celebrate, here is the beginnings of a series from a recent trip to Bali. They are a nice size all at 60 x 88 cm Oil on Linen. Maybe a nice little present for someone… Enjoy
